We are celebrating Hotel JW Madrid opening with the publication of the book CSJ 9-11. The transformation of these 19th century residential buildings, located in Madrid city center into a five-star hotel has been a long journey that began at the end of the year 2016.

Miguel Santesmases has been documenting in photographs the complete sequence of the transformation of the buildings: from the initial disassembly process to their refurbishment and interior decoration, travelling from the shoring of the collapsed structures, its consolidation, the restoration of listed elements to the restoration of the roofs.

There have been many changes over the years: Platinum Fund, that commissioned us for the project in 2016, sold the buildings to Millennium Real State, and that was followed by Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood brand. Furthermore, the hotel changed its brand from a W to a JW, and then the world came to a standstill due to a pandemic… and we all got a bit older.

The artistic value of Miguel’s photographs justifies the publication of this book by itself, but we have also included texts with the different experiences lived by the team of architects, restaurateurs, engineers, and interior designers who, thanks to the trust of Platinum and Millenium, have carried out an exemplary rehabilitation.
