“El Puertito” is a unique enclave located in the south of the island of Tenerife. The commission consists of creating an exclusive seaside resort that would attract design lovers and offer them a place to sit back, relax and enjoy.
From the beginning, it was proposed that the design avoid the image of a block hotel, seeking a more fragmented language that would permit a better integration with the natural environment, thus enhancing the feeling of privacy and independence between the different housing units.
Therefore, the main challenge of the project was to know and understand the area and the analysis of its topography in order to be able to fit in the different buildings required by the hotel. All this, while respecting the limit that marks the coastal protection law and ensuring that all the spaces have good orientation and views of the sea.
To further minimize the impact of the new architecture on the landscape, elements of the island’s local landscaping and vegetation, such as its tropical vegetation and characteristic stone-walled terraces, are incorporated into the design. Thus, this contrast between organic and architectural becomes the main attraction of the project.
