In the heart of Madrid’s nightlife, close to the centrally located Plaza de Callao, the renovation of a unique building, with a symmetrical and unitary composition is proposed to turn it into a young and carefree hotel. The façade, main staircase and the corridors on each floor are protected elements that are to be valued and restored.
The building has 2 structural expansion joints which have probably given rise to the current postal numbers. One of the challenges was to solve the evacuation of the entire hotel through the only entrance hall that occupies number 4, since numbers 6 and 8 are currently being used by offices on the ground, first and second floors. This forced us to create a new staircase in the west end from the 11th to the 3rd floor that went down through the interior, through a safe corridor, and that led the occupants to 2 possible exits; the protected main staircase and a new service staircase with independent exits.

The reception is located on the 3rd floor, next to the breakfast area and lobby. The 139 rooms are distributed between the 3rd and 10th floors, being the Suites with a private terrace the ones that are located on this upper floor.

On the 11th floor we have the Roof Top, a bar with a large terrace that occupies the entire length of the façade. The arcade that crowns the façade has been renovated in accordance to the “glitch” design of the entire intervention. The term “glitch” is based on the digital errors that cause images to appear pixelated or displaced. From the 11th floor there is access to an intermediate platform where the pool is located with some of the best views of the capital.
